Over the past 2 years, our understanding of intestinal stem cells in the Drosophila posterior midgut has advanced greatly. In this review, I will focus on the establishment of these stem cells in their niche during development and the molecular mechanisms that regulate their asymmetric division in adults. J. Cell.
