✦ Synopsis

We report 'rsln nuclear relaxation rates for molten InCIa and visible-near-infrared absorption spectra for molterr InQa and JnaCls. A weak band at 2.1 eV in InCla is attributed to the intervalence transfer excitation In* -+ In3*. The intensity of the intervalence band is correlated with the lifetime of the excited, magnetic ion In'* measured by NMR.
