โฆ Synopsis
The interligand electron transfer (ILET) dynamics of the metal-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excited state of 0s"trisbipyridine have been studied in room temperature solutions using picosecond photoselection/polarized absorption spectroscopy. The excitation wavelength and the solvent were varied and the resulting ILET dynamics were examined. The results show that the ILET dynamics in the fast relaxing solvent, acetonitrile, are independent of MLCT excitation wavelength and follow transition state theory (TST). The ILET dynamics in the slowly relaxing solvent, ethylene glycol, are excitation wavelength dependent and follow multiexponential, non-TST behavior. These results are interpreted in terms of a simple model of the ILET transition state.
