✦ Synopsis


In chelates of divalent zinc which have t&o differcnr aromatic liwds, a new absorption band is observed in the ViCiile region. This new band is interpreted as kisikig from o H --* 7~?interligznd &nsmetaHic cbge-transfer (LTCIJ transition. The nature of this type of chargertransfer transition in a chelate molecule, using B moIecular orbital model, is examined. Experimental results for the che!ates (3,4-tolnenedithiolaatb)(l,lO-phenznthro$ne)zinc(II), (3,4_toluenedithiolato)(2,2'~ipyridyl)zd '(3,4-tbluenedithiolnto)(2,2'-biquinoline)zinc~~ are presented.
