β¦ Synopsis
Three clonal sub-populations, GRU-IA, GRU-I B, and GRU-IC, isolated from the human epithelioid sarcoma cell line GRU-I , were characterized morphdogically , cytogenetically and with regard to proliferation kinetics. Immunocytochemically, major differences became evident in the expression of cytokeratin I8 and neurofilament proteins, which are indicative for epithelial and neural differentiation respectively. Vimentin, a rnesenchymal differentiation marker, however, could be detected in all tumor cells of each sub-population. Laminin, a major compound of basement membranes, formed abundant intercellular network-like patterns in GRU-I B and GRU-I C, whereas GRU-I A was characterized by a diffuse intracellular reaction, suggesting a disorder in laminin secretion. Cytogenetically, all sub-populations proved to be DNA-aneuploid, the DNA index ranging from 1.4 to 1.5. Proliferation analysis revealed doubling times ranging from 13 (GRU-IC) to 19 hr (GRU-I A). These strictly defined clonal sub-populations provide a valuable tool for further investigations of the biological of human epithelioid sarcoma with special regard to terogeneity.

## Abstract Novel 2βphenylβ4βquinolone compounds have potent cytotoxic effects on different human cancer cell lines. In this study, we examined anticancer activity and mechanisms of 20βfluoroβ6,7βmethylenedioxyβ2βphenylβ4βquinolone (CHMβ1) in human osterogenic sarcoma Uβ2 OS cells. CHMβ1βinduced ap
Epithelioid sarcoma (ES) is a very aggressive soft-tissue tumor in vivo, but no experimental data on its invasive and metastatic behavior have been reported. In the present study, 3 different clonal sub-populations (GRU-1A, GRU-1B and GRU-1C), derived from the same human ES cell line, GRU-1, were in
Recent cytogenetical and molecular studies have indicated that synovial sarcoma harbors a t(X;18)(p11.2;q11.2) translocation, resulting in the formation of a hybrid SYT/SSX (SSX1 or SSX2) gene. We newly established a human cell line, HS-SY-3, from a synovial sarcoma. HS-SY-3 cells were shown to harb
