✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The ^15^N NMR spectra of eight aminoglycosides were interpreted. The effect of mixing 20 mol.% of various aminoglycosides with phosphatidylinositol in aqueous dispersion was studied by ^15^N NMR, and correlations were found between the degree of interaction of the aminoglycoside for phosphatidylinositol and the calculated energy of interaction of the antibiotic with the negatively charged phospholipid and the inhibitory potency of the drug towards lysosomal phospholipase A~1~, a critical parameter in the nephrotoxic potential of aminoglycosides.

## Abstract The ^13^C and ^15^N n.m.r. results for a series of diazo compounds are reported. It is found that the diazo carbon is shielded by an extraordinary amount compared with normal sp^2^ hybridized carbons. The ^15^N chemical shifts reveal that the terminal nitrogen is deshielded relative to
