✦ Synopsis

The transition 4Aa + a E of Co'+ has been investigated m [N(CH& JaCoC4 using optical absorption and magnetrc circular dichroism. Three groups of lines wrth 774 cmml progressions were observed. The structure of the spectra indrcates a J-T interaction in the 'El state with strong depression of tile frequency of the J-T active mode. The ground-state splitting 1s7_2cm-I.
