✦ Synopsis
Reviews doped with Ir which shows three absorption lines between 5 and 6 cm-l. This is followed by a short but very complete survey in which both the periodic and aperiodic methods are described : "Fourier Transform Spectro- scopy" by P. L. Richards. Grating spectroscopy is considered next by authors G. R. Wilkinson and D. H. Martin. Sources, monochromators, sampling techniques, and calibrations are carefully discussed. The only criticism would be the rather too close acceptance of the scalar theory for gratings; in fact, polarization effects reach 50 per cent beyond the blaze where the usefulness of such gratings is advantageous. Detectors are discussed by E. H. Putley and D. H. Martin; "Harmonic Generators and Semiconductor Detectors", by J. G.
