A theoretical model of IR laser-induced desorption is developed. An analysis of experimental data shows that this desorption may have a collective character. Such collective character may be the result of so-called resonant or indirect heating. It is shown that this mechanism is not a very efficient

A new mechwusm for desorption induced by an infrared laser is proposed An internal vibration of the adsorbate is excited by the laser and its energy uansferred to the desorption mode -an adsorbate-surface bond. Tlus mode coupbng wth surface phonons bgomes unstable. Such Instability leads to rupture
