Immobilizing a monophosphane …

… on a solid surface can exert a strong influence on the catalytic activities of its metal complexes. In their Communication on page 8363 ff., M. Sawamura and co-workers report that a compact monophosphane immobilized on silica gel can be utilized for the Pd-catalyzed borylation of sterically and electronically challenging aryl chlorides. This study shows that nonbulky ligands can be used for aryl chloride activation if the ligands are immobilized.
