## A t anaphase chromosomes move to the spindle poles (anaphase A ) and the spindle poles move apart (anaphase B). In vitro studies using isolated diatom spindles demonstrate that the primary mechanochemical event responsible for spindle elongation is the sliding apart of havspindle microtubules.
