✦ Synopsis


Rat hepatoma cells rapidly adhered to the polystyrene surfaces of culture bottles. The adhesiveness of the cells was inhibited by sulfhydryl blocking reagents including mercurials, arsenicals, and alkylating agents. Inhibition was prevented, and in some cases reversed, by the addition of dithiothreitol to the adhesive medium. The current model explaining cellular adhesion is discussed in the light of these observations
