✦ Synopsis

A comprehenglve model for the calculation of the threehold current of separate-confinement-heterostructure multiquantum-well quasi-1ndex-gu1ded (SCH-MQN-QIG) 1asers 1s presented, which takes into account current spreading, lateral carrier diffueion and the influence of the carrier profile on the guided light mode. The model is applied to ridge-waveguide (RW) and self-aligned stripe (SAS) lasers emitting at (780 \mathrm{~nm}). The dependence of the threshold current on some structural parameters is examined.
