โœฆ Synopsis

The experiments on the fermentation of glucose to ethanol were carried out using the yeast Saccharomyces car]sbergensis N 34. The fermentation time could be reduced to 6 hours. Biomass degradatlon products such as cel]obiose, dihydroxyacetone, g]yceraIdehyde, showed no or little effect on the fermentation rate. Hydroxymethylfurfura], furfura],

methylglyoxal and 1ignin compounds such as phenol and vaniIIin inhibit the fermentation in the I to 10 mg/mL range very decisively.
