✦ Synopsis
Anthers of diploid genotypes of Solanum tuberosum capable of androgenesis were cultured on different media to examine the effect on induction of pollen embryogenesis of 2,4-D and lactose. Anthers cultured in callogenic medium with 2,4-D and sucrose produced pollen derived embryoids only exceptionally. When sucrose was replaced by lactose the frequency of embryogenesis was as high or higher than in embryogenic auxin-free medium. Substitution of lactose for sucrose in the embryogenic medium had no effect. Supplementing the embryogenic medium with 2,4-0 strongly reduced the frequency of pollen embryoids in the presence of sucrose but not with lactose.

Stamen culture of several Solanum species and interspecific hybrids was performed and each stamen was scored for presence and origin of callus. Each species and hybrid has a characteristic callus growth pattern - either no growth (0), callus growth from the filament (F), or callus growth from the an

Spikes were pre-treated in darkness at 4°C for periods of 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. Overall, the optimum pre-treatment period was 21 days, althoug
Adventive embryogenesis was successfully induced in cultures of zygotic and somatic embryos on MS medium supplemented with BA and NAA. A procedure has been proved successful for the in vitro multiplication of somatic embryos regenerated at low frequencies from filament and callus cultures. The occur
