✦ Synopsis
Fomes annosus grown on cellobiose as the carbon source grows better and produces more aryl-fl-glueosidase compared to cultures grown on glucose. Aryl-fl-glucosidase is specifically induced after the transfer of cultures grown on glucose to eellobiose-containing media, this induction is sensitive to inhibitors of transcription and translation. Density labelling experiments revealed that the increase in activity due to the transfer to cellobiose-media is the result of a true increased enzyme synthesis. Of the four different bands of aryl-fl-glucosidase activity obtained by isoelectric focusing, only one increases in its relative activity after the transfer from glucose-media to cellobiose-media.
