โœฆ Synopsis

Techniques used successjully in inducing S V40-transjornied cells to produce ittfrctious SV40 were employed in an attempt to induce cells trarisjornied by other oncogenic D N A viruses, adenoviruses 2 and 12 arid polyomu virus. These techniques included cocultivation and fusion of transformed cells with indicator cells, and mitomycin C treatment of these heterokaryons and of transformed cells. I n addition, prior to induction experiments, some cell lines were passaged through animals or in the presence

of BUdR in an effort to enhance their inducibility. AN attempts to induce these transformed cells were unsuccessful. It is conclurtd fiom this study that the polyomu and atlenovirus genomes, i f present in their entirety in cells transjormett with these viruses, arc not as reactivable as is the S V40 genome in S V40-traii,sj~~rnicrl cells.
