In the title compound, C 16 H 15 NO 2 S, the indole group is planar and approximately perpendicular to the sulfonyl-bound phenyl ring; the dihedral angle between the planes is 86.80 (6) . The molecules form centrosymmetric dimers via C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds.
