## Abstract A series of nine synthetic polyaromatic compounds were synthesized by polymerization of aromatic ring monomers with formaldehyde, which yield substantially ordered backbones with different functional anionic groups (hydroxyl and carboxyl) on the phenol ring. These compounds were tested
