β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Caprolactam was tested for genetic activity in bacterial and mammalian screens. It was inactive in the following tests: a) Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity; b) Chinese hamster ovary cell mutagenicity (induction of 6βthioguanine mutants); c) Enhancement of SA7 virus transformation of primary hamster embryo cells, when administered before or after virus, and; d) Chemical transformation of secondary hamster embryo cells.

The processes of spontaneous and asbestos-induced transformation of rat mesothelium were studied using cell cultures obtained in the laboratory. The same changes in cell properties were established in both spontaneous and asbestos-induced transformation: change in epidermal growth factor (EGF) respo
Trihalomethanes, Carbon tetrachloride and trichloroethylene were tested in single, binary and multi-complex mixtures using standard tester strains TA1535, TA1537, TA98 and TAlOO of Salmonella fyphimurium with and without addition of an in vitro metabolizing fraction S-9. The genotoxic potential of the fungicide malachite green (MG) and its reduced derivative leucomalachite green (LMG) was assessed in bacteria and mammalian cells using the standard Salmonella typhimurium/Ames and CHO/HGPRT tests. In vitro potential DNA damaging effects of MG and LMG were tested using
Explanted cells from salivary gland tumors are particularly difficult to propagate in vitro and not efficiently immortalized by agents such as simian virus 40. Human papillomavirus 16 (HPV16) has been widely used to transform cells of epithelial origin, but its use for salivary gland cell transforma
Using a computer-aided approach, the tests for Salmonella mutagenicity and transformation in established cell lines were compared for the qualitative bases of their carcinogenicity predictions. For this purpose, a database of 145 chemicals was prepared in which rodent carcinogenicity data and result
