β¦ Synopsis
A repeatable procedure for in uitl-o fertilization of rabbit ova in which the percentage of ova fertilized is consistently high has been developed. When ova were recovered and subsequently incubated i n viho with capacitated spermatozoa at 37" or 39Β°C levels of ova fertilized were 15, 24 and 28% when 73-78%, 83%, and 90% relative humidities, respectively, were maintained. Twenty-one per cent of all ova in these experiments were fertilized. When the ova were recovered at 30-39Β°C and subsequently incubated at 37" or 39Β°C with capacitated spermatozoa under paraffin oil only 19% of the ova were fertilized. However, when ova were recovered and subsequently incubated with capacitated spermatozoa and fluids from the female

## Abstract Proteinase activity was found to be present along the sides of sperm penetration tunnels through the zonae pellucidae of rabbit ova using silverβproteinate staining techniques. This is the first direct confirmation of the generally accepted concept of sperm penetration by proteinase rel
## Abstract After a 1βhour preincubation of epididymal mouse spermatozoa at a concentration of 2 Γ 10^6^/ml in 0.23 mM spermine, the proportion of F~1~ (C57BL Γ CBA) mouse ova fertilized after 1 and 2 hours was significantly greater than with untreated spermatozoa. Spermine also significantly incre
Epididymal sperm were collected from C57B16/J x DBA2/J (B6D2) males and allowed to capacitate for 2 hr. When cumulus-free oocytes were exposed to sperm for 15 min in either the presence (6.0 mM) or absence of caffeine, fertilization did not occur. However, when cumulus cells were left intact, 23% of
## Abstract Ovulated ova in cumulus masses were obtained from rabbits following isoimmunization with rabbit sperm. They were inseminated in vitro with capacitated sperm, cultured and examined for cleavage and cumulus dispersion. In five experiments only 11 of the 81 (13.6%) ova from the immunized f
## Abstract Although mammalian spermatozoa can be capacitated in vitro appropriately for the accomplishment of fertilization in vitro, it has not been established whether such spermatozoa can fertilize immediately in the Fallopian tube nor whether their fertilizing ability is comparable to that of
