✦ Synopsis

The in vitro adsorption of the alkaloid emetine, a primary constituent of ipecac, on activated charcoal was studied. The results support the supposition that syrup of ipecac should not be given to counteract poisonings if activated charcoal is also to be administered.

Inactivation of wild-type p53 during gastric carcinogenesis is usually caused by mutations within exons 5-8 of the p53 gene leading to mutated, usually immunohistochemically detectable p53 proteins. However, functional inactivation of wild-type p53, mimicking mutational inactivation, may also result

The in vitro effects of cigarette smoke on catalase activity were investigated in biological preparations from rat liver and brain using a polarographic method. In both cases cigarette smoke solutions showed a potent ability to inhibit catalase activity with a slight time dependency. The reversibili

Second harmonic generation (SHG) was used to measure the temperature dependence of the reorientation activation volume of 4-(diethylamino)-4-nitrotolane (DEANT) in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The decay of the SHG signal from films of DEANT/PMMA was recorded at hydrostatic pressures up to 3060
