β¦ Synopsis
GABAPENTIN
Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant with minimal interactions. There is a small reduction in bioavailability with antacids which is probably not clinically relevant, and a small fall in renal clearance with cimetidine but not probenecid. There is no evidence of any effect on hepatic metabolism and no documented evidence of interactions with other anticonvulsants.
CONCLUSION
In summary, therefore, from the point of view of drug interactions, gabapentin would appear to be the best of the new anticonvulsants. The data relating to oxcarbazepine are interesting and warrant further study.
