Mdk samples were analysed spcctrophotometncally for their lactose content usmg flow-lwectlon analysis The methodology IS based on the carmme colour that develops (Amu = 540 nm) when lactose reacts with alkahne methylamme (pH 12 7) Lactose concentrations as low as 0 6 mg ml-' can be readily detected and up to 40 samples can be analysed per hour Excellent correlations (r > 0 999) are obtamed when the results arc compared wrth the batch and hqmd chromatographx methods for lactose determmatlon Interference from maltose, If present, should be ebmmated by pretreatment wth maltase &WW& Spectrophotometry, Flow system, Lactose, Mdk
