Abstract
A mild, convenient, and improved method for the direct threeβcomponent Biginelli and Biginelliβlike Mannichβtype reactions of carbonyl compounds in the presence of inexpensive FeCl~3~β 6 H~2~O and Me~3~SiCl as catalysts is described. Reactions performed with carbamates can be used to directly access Nβprotected Ξ²βamino carbonyl compounds in a single step.
