β¦ Synopsis
Los 241amo.~, ,Vew Mexico).
A study has revealed that major differences exist between the physical flroperties of graf'hites manufactured with y-alumina-polymerized furfury. alcohol resin binders and those made with acid-polymerized resins. The causes of these property differences have been directly related to the chemical comf>ositions of the two binder types. Improved graf'hite binder materiafs have resulted from the understanding gained from these studies.

A method has been demonstrated for extruding graphite tubes, and other bodies with multi-hole sections, such that little or no final machining is required. Bodies 34 and 4# in. O.D. up to 4 ft long have been produced, and tubes 16 ft long have been carbonized. The critical factors in the process lie
