✦ Synopsis
The articles in this special issue illustrate some of the main directions that personality psychologists are pursuing in their diverse eorts to meet the challenges of the past and move forward in dealing with basic issues that have long been perplexing. The articles are discussed in the spirit of encouraging a less defensive and more comprehensive and integrative approach to building a cumulative science of persons. The hope is that in its next century the ®eld will increasingly pursue the concurrent analysis of dispositions and the psychological processes that underlie them within a unifying conceptual framework.
