In January 1993, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its AIDS Classification System to include a low CD4 + T-cell count as a criterion for the diagnosis of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) (1). This revision was the end result of a 2-year effort to include labor
