The implementation of the IEF/IEM methodology from James Martin Associates into the Danish credit institution Nykredit is described. The data-processing background at Nykredit is discussed, then the reasons behind the selection of the methodology are looked at, and the implementation details are considered. The implementation included a pilot project, which provided an important advantage for Nykredit over its rivals.
case study, structured methodology, CASE tool ORGANIZATION Nykredit is one of Denmark's largest credit institutions, specializing in the real-estate market and employing some 1300 people at 65 locations thoughout Denmark. The institution's market share currently stands at about 37%, with over 1.5m loans, which total more than Dkr251 billion (Β£22 billion). As part of its growth strategy, Nykredit recognised the importance of competing not just on products but also on technology, especially within the European market.
DATA PROCESSING AT NYKREDIT
Up to 1986, Nykredit employed a bureau service to run its day-to-day systems. In the aftermath of a merger ih 1985 this was not considered to be a satisfactory state of affairs, so an inhouse EDP function was established.
The EDP Centre, located in Aalborg, was purposely situated outside Copenhagen, owing to the high turnover of skilled DP staff and problems of recruiting in the capital. It was decided that Aalborg, in the north-western part of Denmark, offered a good compromise in terms of communication links as well as a skilled local workforce.
