Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an infection with highest prevalences in Asia and sub-Saharan regions of the world where temperatures may vary widely, and where cold storage is not readily available. These are also regions where universal vaccination against HBV infection is essential to break the long-s

β¦ Synopsis
Angiosarcoma of the liver is a very rare primary liver malignancy It has a very malignant behavior, including acute onset, rapid and prograsive growing, rapid deterioration of condition and life-threatening bleeding. However, it is very difficult to be diagnosed by the modern image modalities, except by pathology
Taiwan is an endemic area for viral hepatitis Primary hepatocellular carcinoma is very prevelant and is the leading cause of death here Thinking of the possiblity of angiosarcoma of the liver and therefore avoiden of percutaneous liver biopsy are very important for patients an.d doctors. We presented the US characteristics of 5 cases with liver angiosarcoma, 3 females and 2 males The liver presented with cystic masses with ragged wall and internal septum in two cases, hyperechoic or hypoechoic nodular masses in two cases, diffuse and infiltative small nodules in one case Four of them also had splenic involvement but all had patent PV and no ascites The last patient died from biopsy with bleeding Conclusion: We should think of the possibility of angiosarcoma of the liver, if tumors involve both liver and spleen, no abdominal lymph nodes, nor ascites is demostreted Biopsy, either percutaneous or laparotomy, is better avoided particularly when tumors almost replace whole liver

It has been suggested that hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may have worse outcomes after liver transplantation (LT) because of more aggressive tumor biology. In this study, we determined the post-LT survival of HCC patients with and without HCV using United Netwo
In the current system of allocation, patients awaiting orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) remain at risk of developing de novo hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and removal from the waiting list. Using the United Network for Organ Sharing database, we calculated the rate and identified predictors o

The model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) has been a prevailing system to prioritize cirrhotic patients awaiting liver transplantation. An "exceptional" MELD score of 20 and 24 points is assigned for stage T1 and T2 patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), respectively. However, this s
