β¦ Synopsis
A new type of sesquiterpenes, illici.nolides A (1) and B (2) has been isolated from Illicium tmhiroi The structm of illicinolide A was established by X-ray analysis of thep-bnxnobenxoyl derivative. Illicinohde B was assigned the structure as 9a-hydroxylllicinolide A by specnal data compared with those of illicinolide A. They are biogenetically closely related to anisatin (3) and it8 derivative.

Two novel sesquiterpenes, styxone A (1) and styxone B (2), and a novel lactone, styxlactone (3), were isolated from the Jamaican sponge Myrmekioderma styx. Their structures were elucidated by detailed 1 H, 13 C and 2D NMR data and the absolute stereochemistry of styxone A and B was determined by CD
