✦ Synopsis

JNTRODUCTION

Faujasi te is a zeolite with widespread industrial applications. The crystal structure of faujasite (structure type FAU) can be described as a cubic close packing of so-called sodalite cages connected by double six-rings of SiOl tetrahedra. The corresponding hexagonal close-packed structure was predicted bj7 Breck (Breck, 1974) and was called Breck's Structure Six. Only recently methods were found to sjmthesize the hexagonal polytype of faujasi te using crown-ethers as templates (Delprato et a1. 1989), and the code EMT kvas assigned to this structure. EMT draws much attention because its three-dimensional channel system is comparable \i:i th FAU, while higher Si/AI ratios can be obtained leading to more stable crjstals with different catalytic and separation properties. In this communication u.e demonstrate the importance of' transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to the characterization of EMT.

## Abstract We report on the first optical characterization of both cubic and hexagonal SrMnO~3~. Room‐temperature Raman spectra collected by means of a micro‐Raman spectrometer are shown. The spectrum of the cubic compound is characterized by weak and broad bands in agreement with group theory whi

The thermodynamic stability of hexagonal and cubic ices are examined by evaluating the free energies of those two phases over a wide range of temperature. One hundred proton-disordered configurations are generated for each form of ice, and a lattice dynamics calculation is applied. It is shown that

## Abstract The influence 2H β†’ 3C transition on the lattice constants, electron paramagnetic resonance and electroluminescence of ZnS: Cu, Mn was investigated. The effect of the electron gasionized donors interaction on the lattice constants of crystal is discussed. It is concluded that 2H β†’ 3C tra
