✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Where does HRD stand as a bona fide profession? Where does it need to go in the future in its quest to become an established and widely recognized profession? What short‐ and long‐range strategies are needed to get it there? What issues and challenges need to be addressed that will enable HRD to continue evolving, growing, and advancing as a profession? This article is an attempt to begin addressing these critical and complex questions. An assessment of where HRD currently stands as a profession and two potential strategies that might assist HRD to elevate its professional stature are offered.
