✦ Synopsis

The dynamics of hot luminescence of a vibronic system driven by a quasi-resonant, coherent laser field is studied in a nonperturbative manner. Analytical solutions for the temporal evolution of the line intensities are derived in the case of fast vibrational relaxation. In particular, it is shown that in transient observation schemes the intensity of the hot luminescence can exceed its small stationary value by a few orders or magnitude provided that the driving field is sufficiently strong.

We have studied the interaction between intense laser fields (~< 7 × 1012 W/cm 2) and molecules. For the diatomic molecular ion Ar~-the number of photofragments as a function of laser intensity can be quantitatively explained in terms of light-induced adiabatic molecular potentials. The ground states of small atoms and molecules, namely those of the hydrogen, helium, and lithium atoms and the hydrogen molecular ion and hydrogen molecule, are studied in the presence of an external magnetic field. For the one-electron systems the ground state is of the same symmetry for arbitrary
