The paper is an attempt to present a brief perspective of hopping phenomena since the inception of the field, to summarize the scientific program of this conference, to mention some relevant recent work that could not be covered at the conference, and finally to present some speculations on where the field might be going.
First and foremost I would like to use the award of the last word at the conference to convey appreciation to Aviad Frydman and to the entire local committee for bringing about a very well organized and very pleasant conference. Particularly impressive was their success in having maintained a scientifically excellent program through a sequence of late cancellations by speakers, attributable in part to the disordered political state of the Middle East. Under the hat of a committee member, I would also like to express appreciation to the participants who came to a conference from abroad, political disorder notwithstanding.
