✦ Synopsis

The reclassification of Nd 2-z Ce z CuO 4 from an electron superconductor to a hole superconductor is suggested by simple valence and electrostatics arguments: In Nd 2-z Ce z CuO 4 , isolated Ce substituting for Nd is not an electron donor; the proposed actual dopant is a defect-complex of Ce and interstitial oxygen which provides holes, making Nd 2-z Ce z CuO 4 a hole superconductor.

As revealed in the powder X-ray diffraction and crystallographic data, the parent compound LaPtSi, which crystallizes in the LaPtSi-type structure (I4 1 md), admits considerable vacancies up to 20% on the Pt sublattice while still retaining its tetragonal symmetry. The refined lattice parameters sho

The oxidation behaviors of novel in situ synthesized (TiB + TiC + Nd 2 O 3 )/Ti composites at 600 • C were studied in air atmosphere. The phases of the oxidation layer were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface and the cross-section of the oxidation layer were examined by scanning elect
