✦ Synopsis

The oxidation behaviors of novel in situ synthesized (TiB + TiC + Nd 2 O 3 )/Ti composites at 600 β€’ C were studied in air atmosphere. The phases of the oxidation layer were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface and the cross-section of the oxidation layer were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The research results show that the oxidation-resistant ability of (TiB + TiC + Nd 2 O 3 )/Ti composites is higher than that of TiC/Ti composites with the same volume fraction of reinforcements. In (TiB + TiC + Nd 2 O 3 )/Ti composites, the oxidation-resistant ability and oxidation activation energy improved with the increasing of the volume fraction of reinforcements.

Preliminary characterization of microstructure and mechanical properties of (TiB + TiC)/TC4 in situ titanium matrix composites prepared by laser direct deposition is reported in this paper. The results indicate that in situ reaction occurred during laser direct deposition of coaxially fed mixed powd
