✦ Synopsis

Hodgkin's disease (HD) after treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) has been reported but is extremely rare, and to the authors' knowledge has not been reported in patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The authors present a case of an AIDS patient who developed mixed cellularity type HD 2.5 years after chemotherapy and radiotherapy for Stage I1 NHL. The patient died of infectious causes 1.5 years after interferon therapy for the HD. Autopsy revealed Stage IV HD, mixed cellularity type. Cancer 66:960-964,1990. ON-HOLXiKIN'S LYMPHOMA (NHL) is a well-known N malignant disease in high-risk populations for acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). After the report of Ziegler et al. of 90 homosexual men with NHL,'

it has been demonstrated that the incidence of NHL in AIDS patients is markedly elevated over that in the general population.2 In the rapidly growing literature of lymphoproliferative malignan~ies~-~ in AIDS patients, to our knowledge there are no reported cases of H D after treatment for NHL. This combination of diseases has been reported in non-AIDS patients but is extremely rare. Here we document the case of an AIDS patient presenting with NHL and subsequently developing HD 2.5 years after treatment.

Case Report

A 37-year-old homosexual man had a history of fever, chills, and night sweats in October 1984. Past medical history included syphilis, gonorrhea, hepatitis, and amoebic dysentery many years before admission.

Physical examination revealed a 7 X 6 cm right inguinal mass, A chest radiograph was within normal limits. Complete blood count (CBC) at this time showed leukocytes 5900/~1, hemoglobin From the Departments of *Pathology and ?Medical Oncology,
