✦ Synopsis
This paper reviews the renewed hobbing process, presents and discusses the technological parameter's of the process, and compares it with cold forging. The renewed hobbing process for the forming of a wide range of mould and die cavities consists of various different hobbing methods, such as penetrative and reduce hobbing, hobbing with a blank holder, hobbing using a pre-heated die blank, etc. Compared to other methods, hobbing allows the achieving of high identicity, excellent cavity surface finish, longer service life of moulds and dies, and cost and time savings.

Applied Materials Inc, USA This patent refers to equipment used in the manufacture of flat panel displays. As these are manufactured in larger sizes the sealing of the doors to the vacuum chambers required in the process presents a challenge. Apparatuses and methods are provided for sealing a slit v
against the shaft by a circumferentially wavy sheet of spring. The design parameters may be varied to provide an emphasis to sealing or high speed bearing function as required.
