## Abstract In an effort to understand the epigenetic regulation of ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) expression we have previously demonstrated the role of DNA methyltransferases and methyl CpG binding proteins in rRNA synthesis. Here, we studied the role of protein arginine methyltransferase PRMT5 and th

✦ Synopsis
It is proposed that histone H1°prevents binding of the rRNA transcription factor UBF to regulatory sequences of the rRNA gene. This has a role in reducing rRNA synthesis and inhibiting cell proliferation. This affords the opportunity for other mechanisms to promote cell differentiation.

## Abstract We studied the repair of psoralen adducts in the pol I–transcribed ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes of excision repair competent Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell lines, their UV sensitive mutant derivatives, and their UV resistant transformants, which express a human excision repair gene. In

## Abstract Expression of Musashi1 (Msi1), an evolutionarily conserved RNA‐binding protein, in neural stem cells of the subventricular zone in the postnatal and adult CNS indicates a potential role in the generation of oligodendrocytes. We now show Msi1 expression in a subset of oligodendrocyte pro
## Abstract Shortly after serum‐deprived BALB/c 3T3 fibroblasts are stimulated to grow in medium containing 10% calf serum, the RNA polymerase I activity in permeabilized cells shows a two‐fold increase over the values observed in either serum‐deprived or density‐inhibited resting cells. Inhibition
