Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was measured in extensor digitorum longus (EDL) and soleus muscles during postnatal development in the rat. At 1 and 2 weeks of age, similar low levels were found in both muscles. After 2 weeks, activity increased significantly only in EDL. Adult NOS activity was
