✦ Synopsis

The atomization energies, AIf$ o. 110 i 5 kcal mole-' of the molecules AIAu, and ,II, Au have been determined as 121 k 6 nnd or 506.3 + 25.'1 and 4G0.2 + 20.9 kJ mole-', respectively. Theses atomization energies are discussed in terms of bond strengths and the Pauling model of a polar bond.

.4vailable information suggests that AlAuz has the structure AuAIAu, but that Al;,Au has the structure .41AlAu. For both molecules divulent gold is shown to be unlikely.
