✦ Synopsis

High-temperature background damping (HTBD) of (wt.%) Fe-25Cr-5Al alloy is investigated using a multifunction internal friction apparatus. It has been shown that the HTBD increases with increasing temperature and with decreasing measuring frequency at the same temperature. The HTBD is partly resulted from viscoelastic relaxation and can be described using an empirical model. Experimental results show that the deviation from the ideal viscoelasticity is decreased with increasing temperature and relaxation parameters can be calculated to be H hb = 4.9 ± 0.2 eV and τ 0hb = 9 × 10 -21±1 s, respectively.
