✦ Synopsis
The degenerate fundamental vibrational level £ 5 Å 1 has been studied using FTIR and sub-Doppler CO 2 laser-sideband spectroscopy, providing the most accurate vibration-rotation transition wavenumbers to this level measured so far, with resolved A 1 -A 2 splittings of the kl Å /1 and kl Å 02 levels. Combined with rotational frequencies measured in the £ 5 Å 1 level by millimeter-and submillimeter-wave spectroscopy, we performed a simultaneous fit reproducing all data with minor exceptions quantitatively. Unlike the recent study of the £ 6 Å 1 level of CDF 3 [H. Bu ¨rger et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc 182, 34-49 (1997).] the unitary equivalence of reduced Hamiltonians for an isolated degenerate fundamental level of a C 3£ molecule was not confirmed for the level studied, making one of the reduced Hamiltonians more suitable for the representation of experimental data.

The microwave and submillimeter wave spectra of propyne between 17 and 358 GHz were measured and the rotational transitions in the £ 8 Å 1 excited vibrational state of the CH 3 rocking vibration were assigned. High-resolution spectra of the £ Å 6, 7, and 8 stretching overtones of gaseous 70 GeHD 3 have been recorded by intracavity laser absorption spectroscopy. The spectra have been analyzed as symmetric-top parallel bands. In all, 167 lines of the £ Å 6 band, 115 lines of the £ Å 7 band, and 96 lines of
