โฆ Synopsis
Fundamental concepts of high-resolution mass spectrometry as it relates to the issue of accurate mass measurements are presented. Important issues speciรc to magnetic sector instruments, Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance and time-of-รight (TOF) methods are discussed. Recent high-resolution TOF measurements on peptides and proteins, ionized by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI), are presented and discussed in terms of basic concepts important to accurate mass measurements.

An automated sample preparation for high throughput accurate mass determinations by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) has been developed. Sample preparation was performed with an automated workstation and automated mass analyses were performed
Partial 18 O-labeling of peptides has been applied to post-source decay experiments in a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The ions which originate from the carboxyl terminus of a peptide partially retain 18 O atoms which have readily been incorporated int
A variety of gram-positive and gram-negative intact bacterial cells have been analysed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) and shown to provide fingerprint mass spectra with discrete peaks being observed over the mass range from 3 to 40 kDa. The spectra show b
