โฆ Synopsis
High-resolution ion-yield and electron-yield spectra and "symmetry-resolved" ion-yield spectra have been measured at the O K-edge of 02. The 1 s-~* (3YI) and I s-o* (3~z-) bound-state resonances are clearly resolved, where the g* resonance is split into two features. Many Rydberg transitions converging to the 4~-and 2E-ionization thresholds are found on the I s--o* resonance, but above the 43z-threshold the Rydberg series converging to the 2E-threshold show only a broad band. They are interpreted with the help ofab initio SCF-CI and frozen-core calculations for the core-excited states with four open shells. The Rydberg series are assigned to the I s-3sa, I s-3pn, and 1 s-npt~ (n = 3, 4,... ) transitions. The splitting of the o* resonance arises from the exchange interaction; however, in contrast with the Rydberg states, the core-to-valence (Is--o*) excited state related to the 2E-spin coupling is lower in energy than the Is-o* state related to the 4y-one.
