β¦ Synopsis
Membranes with high permeability to gases are formed from polyimides with rigid backbones that incorporate a spiro-centre. A route to this new range of high-free-volume polyimides is demonstrated, and exceptional performance is obtained for a polymer containing a dimethyl binaphthyl unit.

## Abstract This paper reports a new polyimide design with high internal free volume elements for fast mass transport simultaneously with high selectivity. Here, we show that the polymer design using a threeβdimensional rigid molecular structure having internal void space can lead to the formation
Ceramic-supported polymer (CSP) membranes were prepared based on Torlon, P84, and Matrimid. The dehydration performance of these membranes was determined by pervaporation of n-butanol/water mixtures (95/5 wt%) at 95 β’ C. Based on their performance P84 was selected for further testing. This paper deals with the preparation and properties of ultrafiltration polyvinylidene fluoride based membranes obtained by casting and gelation of ternary solutions of polyvinylidene fluoride, solvent and LICE as an appropriate inorganic salt additive . The membranes were tested in a laboratory sca
