โœฆ Synopsis

Lombricine (2-guanidinoethyl-2-amino-2-carboxyethyl hydrogen phosphate) and its N-phosphorylated form (Fig. 1) have been reported to be present in a number of oligochaetes'+ including many species of earthworm. The physiological role of these compounds has been postulated lp3q7 to be similar to that of creatine and arginine and their corresponding N-phosphorylated forms in vertebrates and invertebrates respectively, in that they act as intracellular regulators of adenosine triphosphate levels.
