β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Intracellular pH (pHi) has been determined in vivo in livers from anaesthetized rats using both ^31^P NMR and ^19^F NMR spectroscopy. In the ^31^P NMR study pH, determined from the chemical shift of endogenous P~i~, was found to be 7.26 Β± 0.02. In the ^19^F NMR study on a separate group of animals pH~i~ was determined from the chemical shift of FβQuene 1 infused via the portal vein and found to be 7.18 Β± 0.01. In approximately half of the ^19^F NMR studies no ^19^F signal could be detected in the liver probably because of loss of FβQuene 1 in the circulation. The small discrepancy between pH~i~ determined by the two probes could be caused by different intraβ or intercellular distributions or by unknown effects of FβQuene 1 on metabolism. ## Abstract A novel technique is presented to measure __in vivo__ simulataneously oxygen tension and temperature using ^19^F NMR spectroscopy of perfluorocarbon. This work examines the variation with oxygen tension (pO~2~) and temperature of the individual spin lattice relaxation rates (__R__~1~) o
## Abstract Although Ca^2+^ transport regulation at subcellular organelles is of great interest, only limited methodology has been available for measuring organellar [Ca^2+^] levels. The present study employs the ^19^F NMR resonance frequency of 4FβBAPTA to measure free [Ca^2+^]. In 4FβBAPTA loaded
