Osmotic swelling of multilamellar liposomes was shown to produce structural changes in liposomal membranes. Creation of transmembrane osmotic gradients results in an increased lateral mobility of membrane incorporated hydrophobic probe, pyrene. This is accompanied by some decrease in order parameter
